Uganda Cranes Head Coach Sebastien Desabre has continued to remind his charges about the importance of Abu Dhabi camp ahead of the Total AFCON 2019 Finals in Egypt next month, June 21. Seventeen (17) players are in camp with the 11 more players to join between tomorrow, June 2 and next Friday, June 7.

“You need to understand the importance of this camp in Abu Dhabi. I am happy with the attitude and the response to training. You are representing millions of fans back home and around the globe. They want to see you perform to your best,” said Desabre before the team headed for endurance sessions and ball work on Thursday morning at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium.

With the current weather in Abu Dhabi, the morning session under souring heat helps players adapt to the environment they will find in Egypt, according to Ahmed Hussein, the FUFA Communications officer and Cranes media officer.

Captain Denis Onyango continues to train alone under goal keepers coach Fred Kajoba as the other three goal keepers; Salim Jamal, Charles Lukwago and Robert Odongkara join the camp.

Defender Bevis Mugabi believes the camp is adding value to players’ understanding of the coach’s tactics.

“The intensity has picked up. We struggled on day one but all is fine now. We are working as a team with a target to deliver,” noted Mugabi, who was complimented by center back Murushid Jjuuko. “The atmosphere is good so far. Adapting to this environment will help us to gradually enjoy the weather in Egypt. We have played all the three teams in the past and we know what they can,” he said.

The Cranes start the AFCON campaign against Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on June 22 in group A clash.
