Innocent Nahabwe and his golfing partner Adoch Luwum are winners of the fourth edition of Singleton Matchplay Challenge that came to a close on Saturday at Entebbe Club’s par-71 golf course.

Nahabwe/Adoch beat the mixed pair of Diana Nambalirwa/Anthony Ndegwa 5/3 to claim the 2020 edition that was reinstated in October after sport was halted way back in March as a Covid-19 preventive measure. The event was initially meant to run from January to July but the pandemic happened.

Nahabwe who had expressed fears (due to unpreparedness) ahead of tee-off revealed that it’s been a tough season albeit managing to come atop in the final bend of proceedings.

“These have been tough times but I am grateful that we are the winners. The final was also tough but the end justifies the means,” Nahabwe said during the awards ceremony at the 18th hole.

The winners just like other podium finishers received air tickets to a destination of their choice courtesy of RwandAir, including tickets from Riders Lounge, goodie bags, trophies and the like.

Nahabwe/Adoch who beat fellow all-male pair of Oscar Ssemawere/Marvin Kagoro 2up in the semis now look forward to the 2021 edition but vowed to continue playing both recreational and competitive golf to keep in shape for other engagements as well.

However, Ssemawere/Kagoro won the 3rd/4th place playoff against Earnest Rukundo/Rogers Byaruhanga. The former was named one of the best dressed teams.

The event’s platinum sponsor was Singleton whisky. Co-sponsors were; NCBA Bank Uganda, DSTV, Ekspresso, RwandAir, Serena Hotels, HTC, Bycentrics, Pinnacle Security, MARSH, Victoria Motors, Riders Lounge and Street Club
