The 2020 Singleton Matchplay Challenge final will be played on Saturday, 19th December 2020 at Entebbe Club’s par-71 golf course.

Innocent Nahabwe and his golfing partner Luwum Adoch will come up against the mixed pair of  Diana Nambalirwa/Anthony Ndegwa with both teams seeking to win their maiden title in the fourth season of the tournament.

Nahabwe and Adoch made their first entry to the event this year and could possibly emerge triumphant on their maiden appearance.

“Its exciting to get this far on our maiden entry. We have had to learn as we move. We have not gotten to the finals by chance, both of us have put in time and effort over the course of the tournament. We are looking forward to lifting the trophy,” Nahabwe said ahead of the final.

In the semis, Adoch/Nahabwe beat fellow all-male pair of Oscar Semawere/Marvin Kagoro 2up while Nambalirwa/ Ndegwa beat a male team of Earnest Rukundo/Rogers Byaruhanga 8/7.

Ahead of the final, Nahabwe fears that he and his team mate haven’t prepared enough though they have their eyes set on the prize.

“We haven’t done a lot of training. I am having a crazy week since its the end of the year and my partner lost some one close. But we will in the last two days see what we can do,” Nahabwe noted during a Thursday interview.

Albeit coming up against a mixed pair, Nahabwe narrates that he and his partner won’t be complacent to avoid getting stunned on the final day.

“Golf is about handicaps and advantage. The ladies tee off ahead of the men always which gives the ladies a better chance. Diana is an artisan, her main job is golf, while for us, its a hobby. It won’t be an easy one. But we want to enjoy the game as we play. Anthony is a friend to both of us so it should be fun playing with him,” Nahabwe, CEO Galaxy FM and serial entrepreneur said.

Ahead of the final bend of proceedings, Nahabwe narrates that it hasn’t been easy shaking off the rust from lockdown when sport was halted in March only for it to be reinstated in September.

“It was challenging! For many months all courses were closed and we therefore spent months without training. Then when they did (opened courses), there were few competitions. We needed that to sharpen up. We at one time thought even the competition was off. It then returned and it was back to back which wasn’t easy for us since we only play golf on weekends,” Nahabwe said.

There will be a subsidiary event for both men and ladies with prizes to be won including award for the smartest player on the course.

The event’s platinum sponsor is Singleton whisky. Co-sponsors are; CBA Bank Uganda, DSTV, Ekspresso, RwandAir, Serena Hotels, HTC, Bycentrics, Pinnacle Security, MARSH, Victoria Motors and Street Club (host for the after party).
