The Uganda national U15 football team has shown great improvement ahead of the 2019 CECAFA U15 championship in Eritrean capital Asmara starting this Saturday.

After the 3-0 win, the team recorded a 5-0 win over inaugural Odilo champions Rays of Grace Junior academy in the second buildup match at the FUFA technical center, Njeru on Tuesday afternoon.

Interim head coach Magera Jackson is expected to name his final 20-man squad this Thursday before the flight scheduled on the same day.

On Tuesday, Magera had a chance to try out foreign-based Mawanda Gabriel Twaib (NASA Top Hart-USA) and Basil Tuma Tenywa (Eton College, Windsor, United Kingdom) who all impressed. Abas Kyeyune grabbed a brace with Abdul Nsereko, Najib Kigozi and Rays of Grace Junior academy captain Leonard Kasanya all a goal each.

“The two games have been a good test and we are well prepared for the challenge ahead. However, we shall need to work hard on our attack and effectiveness as our defense looks fine,” said Magera. After the match, FUFA president Eng. Moses Magogo engaged the players urging them to start developing their minds towards becoming “It is only your mind and discipline that will help you achieve this not the genes or the height or the body size,” he noted. Uganda is in group B alongside Rwanda, South Sudan and Ethiopia. It will play Ethiopia in the first game this Saturday.
