On Saturday, A1 Challenge opened the National Basketball League (NBL) action with a resounding 64:99 victory against Nabisunsa. The 1-time women’s champions put Nabisunsa to the sword, scoring 99 points as they registered their first victory of the season. Stella Kiberenge joined the 30 point club after dropping a monstrous performance, 30 points and 16 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. Levi Sudi scored 22 on 61% FG.
Nabisunsa had 2 players with a double double, Martha Yikiru (15 points, 11 rebounds) and the returning Sarah Namale (10 pts and 12 rebounds).
YMCA made it 2 wins in succession after finishing off Kampala University Eagles in a 40 point game. 4 of the Lady Hamstars starters scored double digits. Rose Adhiambo (21 points) and Akello Scovia (20 points) scoring 20+ for the sevond game running.
Florence Rachel Ogundhla who was making her debut made registered a triple double (15 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists) amd she is the second person to do so this season after Hope Akello.
Miracle Ravens big 3 all turned up contributing offensively and defensively. Lilian Cherotich (11 points, 17 rebounds), Akello Winnifred (20 points, 10 rebounds) and Susan Amito (21 points, 12 rebounds) all had double doubles. Lilian Cherotich was pysched up making 9 blocks, the highest in a game this season.
In the men’s division, Kampala Rockets finally registered their first victory of the season after defeating the JKL Dolphins 74:66.
Puati Ozias continued his fine start to the campaign with a superb performance dropping a nig (16 poings, 20 rebound, 9 blocks) double double.
