NBL: City Oilers finish first round on a high note

After a long hiatus, City Oilers finally returned to action recently to complete their then pending games in the first round of the Tusker Lite National Basketball League (NBL) 2022 season.

City Oilers, men’s division title holders went ahead to win all their three games at hand including their Saturday clash against Ndejje Angels at the YMCA basketball court in Wandegeya, Kampala. They beat the university side 78-48 in their final game of the first round of the campaign.

City Oilers sit second on the 13-team men’s division regular season table with 22 points off 10 wins and two losses whilst Ndejje are 11th after picking only three wins from 12 games.

On Saturday evening, James Okello stood out for City Oilers, shooting 15 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. He was named Tusker Lite player of the match.

Other top performers for City Oilers included Jimmy Enabu with 17 points, 4 rebounds and 6 assists, Ruai Luak with 14 points and 5 rebounds plus Ivan Muhwezi who managed 13 points and 4 rebounds.

In a losing effort, Ndejje’s Hassan Sentamu shot 12 points and 1 rebound, David Mayom had 6 points and 10 rebounds whilst Godwin Muhamiriro returned 5 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists.

In the women’s division, university side UCU Lady Canons finished the first round on a high as they beat secondary school side Nabisunsa Girls 48-60 in the first game of the final day of the first round of the regular season.

Lady Canons are fourth on the 10-team women’s division regular season table with 16 points off seven wins and two losses whilst Nabisunsa are second last on the table after picking just one win.

The second round of the season tips off on Friday, June 3rd with teams set to start pursuit for playoffs slots and survival.
