Vipers SC continued their confident start to the campaign with a composed 1–0 victory over KCCA FC on Friday evening at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.
Allan Okello, facing his former club, produced the game’s decisive moment, taking advantage of a goalkeeping lapse to secure the result. The win preserved Vipers’ perfect record from their opening fixtures, while KCCA tasted defeat for the first time this season.
Head coach Leo Victoria introduced two changes from the side that defeated Entebbe, naming Okello and Yunus Sibira in the starting line-up. Captain Milton Karisa and Gusto Mulongo made way. KCCA, led by co-coach Jackson Magera, made a single switch, with Gavin Kizito Mugweri preferred at right back to Enock Walusimbi.
Vipers settled more quickly, establishing authority in possession and limiting KCCA’s rhythm. Their midfield, anchored by Enock Ssebagala, Marvin Joseph Youngman and Karim Watambala, controlled the tempo, dictating play through crisp passing and intelligent positioning.
Fullback Rogers Torach added an extra layer of tactical flexibility, often slotting into central defence alongside Hillary Mukundane and Kevin Daslyva when the hosts were without the ball.
Early pressure almost yielded reward when Ssebagala found space inside the box but failed to convert. Arafat Usama, energetic and direct on the right flank, provided a constant outlet as Vipers continued to stretch KCCA’s shape.
The breakthrough arrived after 32 minutes. A low delivery from Yunus Sentamu appeared harmless, yet goalkeeper Charles Lukwago misjudged it, allowing the ball to slip from his grasp. Okello, alert and composed, reacted first to guide it into the net.
KCCA responded by introducing Ashiraf Mugume for the subdued Umar Lutalo, but the visitors struggled to alter the balance of play before the interval.
After the restart, KCCA showed more intent, moving the ball with greater urgency and committing players forward. However, their improvement met firm resistance.
Vipers defended with discipline and organisation, restricting clear chances and ensuring goalkeeper Alfred Mudekereza remained largely untroubled. Their ability to manage the game, even as KCCA pressed harder, underlined the maturity of the performance.
The result moved Vipers to six points from two games, placing them tenth in the early standings. KCCA remained at the summit with eleven points, despite the loss.
Following the international break, KCCA will host URA FC at Lugogo, while Vipers stay in Kitende to meet Maroons FC.
