H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has been recognised on the continental stage, receiving the CAF President’s Outstanding Achievement Award in recognition of Uganda’s key role, together with Kenya and Tanzania, in co-hosting the 2024 African Nations Championship CHAN.
The award was presented on Wednesday in Rabat during the 2025 CAF Awards, where CAF President Patrice Motsepe praised the East African leaders for their dedication to advancing African football through collaboration and careful planning.
CHAN 2024 was celebrated as one of the most successful editions of the tournament. Improvements in stadium readiness, logistics, and overall operational standards ensured a smooth and professional championship that impressed players, officials, and fans alike.
Kenyan President William Ruto and Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan were also recognised for their leadership in delivering a tournament that set a new benchmark for future events.
For Uganda, the tournament was more than a sporting spectacle. It served as a rehearsal for the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. Major infrastructure projects including Hoima City Stadium are nearing completion and reflect the country’s commitment to hosting world-class football events and fostering the growth of the game regionally.
