The national football team (Uganda Cranes) is smiling big on return from Afcon 2019 in Egypt after the Head of State Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni extended $1m (about Shs3.7bn) to the team as token of appreciation.

This was during a welcome dinner by the president at State house, Entebbe on Monday evening.

The president was happy with the team’s performance despite exiting at the last 16 after falling to Senegal 1-0 courtesy of Sadio Mane goal at the Cairo international stadium.

It was the first time Uganda gets to this stage in 41 years since losing to Ghana in the final in 1978.

The rather good Cranes Afcon tale however came with the resignation of Head Coach Sebastien Desabre, who guided the team to straight return to the continental showpiece.

The president, according to State house sources, said that: “we shall see how to share the money but the players should take the bigger share.”

The president has of recent extended maximum support to the Cranes and Fufa attributes their success to the fact.

Museveni also gave a ‘huge’ token of appreciation to the Cranes on return from 2017 Afcon in Ganon despite not making it out of the group.
