Stanbic Black Pirates are now leading the 2022 Nile Special Rugby Premier League table after the conclusion of match day two fixtures on Saturday that saw them (Pirates) demolish Rams 64-03 at Kings Park, Bweyogerere, which was the biggest score of the day.

The bonus point win over Rams takes Pirates to the summit with 10 points from two games as they seek to gain momentum in the earlier stages of the season.

Against Rams, Pirates ran in 10 tries and managed to convert seven of them. The try scorers were; William Nkore, Isaac Massa (4), Kelvin Balagadde, Frank Kidega, Muhammed Haruna and James Mugisha (2). Debutant Moses Olupot who has been with the club’s development side Sailors managed three conversions, just like William Nkore. Ivan Magomu also put one in between the sticks.

Meanwhile, at Kyadondo Rugby Club, the ‘Lions Cup’ clash between Heathens and Kobs was a low scoring one but the former emerged 07-06 winners to go second on the table with nine points.

Both sides looked rusty though Kobs dominated the first half but were off in second half which was compounded by discipline issues. Their lineouts were poor but they dominated via scrum downs. They’re now fourth on the table with six points.

Heathens on the other hand maintained their playing structure but were too wasteful especially at kicking with fly half Aaron Ofoyrwoth missing about 18 points and should the home side have lost, he would have taken the largest portion of the blame.

Earlier in the day at Kyadondo, Buffaloes and Impis settled for a 14-14 draw whilst Mongers picked a slim 11-10 win over Rhinos at the House of Payne in Entebbe to go third with eight points and at Dam Waters in Jinja, Hippos returned to winning ways with a whooping 44-05 triumph over struggling Warriors.

However, the women’s league returned on Saturday with Black Pearls demolishing Mbale Eagles 62-00. Emilly Lekuru ran in five tries, whilst Suzan Adong, Rachel Mufuwa, Ritah Nadunga and Emmanuel Oroma had a try each. Charlotte Mudoola had four conversions and one penalty kick while Bushira Namutebi had two penalty kicks.
