The Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU) has intensified safety preparations ahead of the 2026 motorsport season by conducting a terrorism-focused refresher course for rally officials.
Held on Monday, February 16, 2026, in Ndeeba, the one-day training brought together more than 100 marshals and safety personnel in preparation for the highly anticipated Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally.
The session was facilitated by officers from the Uganda Police Force and senior FMU officials, with a strong focus on mitigating terrorism risks and enhancing public safety during rally events.
Leading the security briefing was Assistant Senior Superintendent of Police Hussein Nsobya, Director of the Counter Terrorism Unit. He warned participants that both individuals and venues could be potential targets, urging heightened vigilance at all times.
“Safety starts with you,” Nsobya emphasized, calling on marshals and officials to remain alert and report any suspicious activity promptly to security agencies.
Nsobya also recommended that FMU establish clearly designated zones for officials, VIPs, and spectators to streamline crowd control and security management. He encouraged participants to plan deployments early, remain punctual, and proactively assess possible risk factors at rally stages.
Former FMU Deputy President for Technical Rallying and Clerk of Course for the Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally, Kisitu Mayanja, stressed strict adherence to the sport’s code of conduct, underscoring accountability among officials.
Meanwhile, FMU Vice President for Administration Hajji Hamid Gombe, who oversees the Safety and Medical Commissions, reaffirmed the federation’s commitment to maintaining international safety standards. FMU Medical Delegate Dr. Derrick Okech also highlighted the importance of timely medical examinations for competitors and riders ahead of events.
