Third place play-off

UMU vs Busitema (12pm)

The new date and venue for the 2019 Pepsi University football league final has been confirmed. The final that was moved from last Sunday will be played this Sunday November 10 at the StarTimes stadium, Lugogo.

The change was after the management of Namboole stadium last week confirmed suspension of hosting games as the facility undergoes refurbishment for two weeks.

In a press conference held on Tuesday at Lugogo, Vincent Kisenyi, the chairman University league confirmed that the final will be preceded by a third place play off between Uganda martyrs University (UMU) and Busitema University at mid day before Uganda Christian University (UCU) takes on St Lawrence University (SLAU) at 3pm.

“The teams at the final will have a feel of the stadium on Saturday before the final on Sunday with SLAU training at midday and then UCU at 2pm. We have maximum security on the final and for entrance one will have to buy a bottle of Pepsi soda. The prizes for the third place play-off will be given out immediately after the game,” noted Kisenyi.

Both UCU and SLAU are at the final for the first time in history and will be providing a new champion after ejection of defending champions Kyambogo at the quarterfinals.

UCU head coach Kintu Mwera says that it looked impossible for them to get up to the final, but they are excited to be at the final. “It is the last game of the season and it the best chance we have to win our first title. We shall come to play and make people enjoy but the ultimate target is to win the title,” noted Kintu, who is an assistant coach at StarTimes Uganda premier league side Kyetume FC. For SLAU Coach, Nono Ssozi, they expect a turf game against fellow first time finalists. “UCU have more experience than us and have proved their scoring prowess. They (UCU) have had the best season but we are very ready for the challenge,” he said.

UCU beat Bugema University 4-2 on penalties after a 3-3 aggregate score in a two legged semifinal while SLAU edged 2017 champions Uganda Martyrs University 3-2 in a shootout during following a 2-2 aggregate score.
