Stanbic Uganda Cup, Semi finals

First Leg Fixtures

Kyetume vs Proline, Nakisunga

Bright Stars vs Express FC, Mwererwe

Joint record winners Express are in the semi finals of this season’s Stanbic Uganda Cup after their slim 1-0 home win over BUL fc at the quarter final.

Brian Umony scored the only goal that led the Red Eagles to the pre-final stage in pursuit for their record 11th title. In the draws held on Wednesday at FUFA House in Mengo, Express, who last won the title in 2006/7 season, were drawn to face fellow premier league side Bright Stars, who are at this stage for the first time. Express make a trip to Mwererwe first before hosting the return leg at Betway Muteesa II stadium, Wankulukuku. “We have come a long way up to the semi finals. Among the teams left, we are the giants with the pedigree. You cannot get to this stage and you do not think of lifting the title; we want it that is a fact. Winning the Stanbic Uganda Cup will be best thing to the team and me as a person,” noted Ssemwogerere, whose side is also yet to secure safety in the premier league despite his buoyancy for a top-eight finish. In other semi final, Proline that eliminated Vipers SC visit fellow FUFA Big league side Kyetume, who eliminated Wakiso Giants at the previous round, in the first leg before hosting the return leg at StarTimes stadium, Lugogo. Proline coach Shafik Bisaso said that: “The draw is fair. Like the rules suggest, the winner with most goals will progress to the finals. We shall give our best over the two legs.” The first leg of the semi finals will be played between April 24 and May 28 while the return legs are scheduled for between May 4 and May 9. The final, according to FUFA Competitions director Hajjat Aisha Nalule, will be played on May 25 at Masaka recreational grounds. KCCA FC that was eliminated by Tooro United at the round of 32 beat Vipers SC 1-0 in the final to win the title last season. Meanwhile, FUFA Events manager Leila Nankya has further urged the public to go to FUFA and donate clothes and other items as part of the Social Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) cause attached to the Stanbic Uganda Cup.
