Express FC Chairman Kiryowa Kiwanuka has confirmed that the club will hold onto head coach George Ssemwogerere for next season despite no commendable achievement this concluding season.

In an interview on a local FM radio, Kiryowa broke many Express FC fans’ hearts who called for exit of the club’s longest captain by asserting that: “Unless he throws in a towel, he is still our head coach and he has the full backing of the management.”

The former Cranes defender replaced Kefa Kisala in February and led the team to a 10th place finish in the StarTimes Uganda premier league as well as semi finals of the Stanbic Uganda Cup where they fell to Bright Stars in penalties after the two legs.

Under Ssemwogerere, the Red Eagles have played 17 League and Cup games; winning 7, drawing 5 and losing 5.

Meanwhile, the Betway-sponsored six-time Uganda champions have confirmed release of seven other players after earlier offloading last season Captain Isaac Mutanga.

Tonny Odur in action for Express this season

Tony Odur, Ibrahim Kayiwa,  Mathias Muwanga, Charles Mutima Musoke, Shafik Nana Kakeeto, Joel Male and Pius Mbidde are the released players.

Striker Odur joined from Vipers SC for his fourth stint at Wankulukuku and was the club’s top scorer last season with 8 goals.

Goalkeeper Muwanga joined from URA FC at the start of last season while midfielder Kayiwa joined from Vipers SC for his second stint at the 6-time league champions. Kakeeto joined the club in 2017 from Nyamityobora, Male joined from Katwe United, midfielder Mbidde from Kitara whilst Musoke joined from Nyamityobora,
