Toyota Uganda Limited on Friday engaged with age grade rugby playing kids and some of their coaches at Kyadondo Rugby Club in Kampala as the youngsters celebrated this year’s Christmas.
Toyota, sponsors of local rugby outfit Buffaloes RFC who are based at Kyadondo engaged the children both on and off the turf in a series of activities that included tag rugby action between themselves (kids), with some of the company staff also in the mix.
This is the fifth year (save last year due to Covid-19) Toyota has engaged youngsters during the festive holiday and Joweria Matovu Butele who’s the National Customer Relations Manager and Head of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Toyota Uganda Limited says that the gesture depicts the company’s value of enhancing skills development.
“One of our values as Toyota is to enhance child skill development. Some (children) may not be able to reach higher standards of education but through this sport they will have an opportunity to grow and even build careers,” Butele said after the tag rugby session.
According to Butele, recruiting youngsters into the game will keep them away from wrong elements in society and possibly help them create their future in a healthy way. She also heaped praise on age grade rugby coaches for shaping the next generation of Uganda Rugby.
Toyota also used the same platform to pay tribute to former Rugby Cranes coach and player, Robert Seguya who passed away earlier this week. Seguya was also a former employee of the company and a staunch supporter of age grade rugby.
However, Toyota has also been doing CSR in the areas of road safety, health, environment conservation and also within its own staff.
