Semi final, first leg result

UCU 2-1 Bugema

UCU Captain Emanuel Derrick Were is super confident that his side will negotiate past Bugema at the semi final to reach their first final of the Pepsi University football league.

UCU, who at the semi final for the first time in six seasons, came from behind to beat Bugema 2-1 in an exciting semi final first leg played last Friday at UCU-Mukono.

Bugema, who ejected holders Kyambogo University at the quarter finals, took the lead in the 43rd minute through Aldrine Kambale’s penalty but Kaye Kizito grabbed a brace to in the 68th and 85th minute to give hosts first leg advantage.

“We are happy that our time finally came and we broke the quarter final jinx. Our season target is to at least get to the final and if possible win our first title. The first leg win gives us confidence ahead of the return leg but we also know that the tie is not yet over. We need take a slim win to Bugema for the return leg and we must work even harder than we did in the first leg,” noted the goal keeper, who has conceded only three goals and kept six clean sheets in the nine games played.

UCU and Bugema were meeing for the third time in the competition –having met twice before in 2017 during Bugema’s first year of participation. UCU beat Bugema 4-0 at home and drew 0-0 on the road.

The second legs of the semi-final are scheduled for October 16-18 while the final is scheduled for November 3 at Namboole stadium.
