UCU vs SLAU, Lugogo (3pm)

Third place play-off

UMU vs Busitema (12pm)

Uganda Christian University (UCU) Captain Derrick Were says that 2019 provides the best chance for them to win their first ever Pepsi University football league title. U

takes on fellow first time finalists St Lawrence University (SLAU) in the final this Sunday at the StarTimes stadium, Lugogo.

The final will come after Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) plays Bugema University in the third place play-off at mid day.

Both UCU and SLAU progressed to their first final following post match penalties. SLAU beat 2017 champions UMU 3-2 on penalties after a 2-2 aggregate score from the two legs while UCU beat Bugema 4-3 after a 3-3 aggregate score.

Were, who saved two penalties against Bugema at the semi final, is sure that they have the best chance of clinching the title even when it comes to penalty shoot-outs.

“We thank for God for the performance and we pray that we finish off our remarkable campaign with a title. Our target was to get to the final and now we believe that we can actually win it. We progressed after penalties and it was me in goal –thus untroubled by penalty shoot-outs. However we want to kill off the game in normal time,” Were noted. U

had never gone past quarter finals in the four season of participation and Were who was in goal as Singo beat Buddu in Penalties to win the 2018 Airtel-Masaza Cup is buoyed they will be champions on Sunday.

Pepsi, as exclusive sponsors, have put aside Shs12m for cash prize while entrance on Sunday goes for a bottle of Pepsi soda at the entrance. Kyambogo were last year’s champions.
