Two-time champions Kampala University (KU) and Uganda Christian University (KU) return to Pepsi university football league action this Thursday with both teams negotiating their ways to join Makerere University Business School (MUBS) at the knockout stage of this season’s competition.

With MUBS already making their way to quarters despite being docked a point and goal for fans’ indiscipline this season, Group D is still open for both KU and UCU to progress.

KU are visiting winless and bottom placed International University of East Africa (IUEA) and need a win to keep their hopes of progressing to the next stage alive while UCU who are hosting MUBS also need a win to be sure of progress.

Both KU and UCU have two games to play and face-off in the last fixture while IUEA and MUBS are left with one group stage fixture. “Thursday’s fixture is going to be our most important game. It is what determines our season. We not only need to win our game, but also hope that the game goes our way in Mukono,” said KU coach Vincent ‘Titi’ Tumusiime.

For UCU coach Jimmy Mwera, the team’s destiny is in their hands. “I think we have done well so far. We struggled in the first two games but are now in a fairly good position. We need three points against MUBS and I am sure we shall get them to seal our progress,” Mwera said.

Although MUBS have already qualified for the knockout stage, Coach Charles Ayiekoh says that they will still give all against UCU.

“Our objective is to finish on top of the table and so, we need to win against UCU. Thursday’s game is like any other and even if we have already qualified, we are going to give our best,” Ayiekoh said.

All the two fixtures registered barren stalemates in the reverse first round contests.

The Pepsi-sponsored exciting league returns on Friday as Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) host St. Lawrence University (SLAU) while Kumi hosts Busitema University on Sunday.
