Pepsi University Football League

Quarter Final, Second Leg

UCU 4-0 Busitema (Agg 9-1)

Uganda Christian University (UCU) finally broke their quarter-final jinx when they walloped Busitema University 9-1 on aggregate following a 4-0 win in the Second leg of their Pepsi University Football League quarter-final on Friday at their Mukono main campus.

UCU, who won the first leg away 5-1, are in their fifth season of the competition and had never made it past the quarter-final stage for the last four seasons since 2015.

They have before been knocked out by Kampala University (2018), Uganda Martyrs (2017, 2016) and Kampala International University (2015).

In their inaugural season in 2014, they didn’t make it past the group stage. UCU have never lost to Busitema and Coach Kintu Mwera is happy that his team finally managed to break the jinx and storm semi finals of the competition for the first time.

Busitema coach Namugenyi Dorothy conceded defeat –saying that they were second to UCU in both legs.

At the semi finals, UCU joined former winners Uganda Martyrs University (UMU), St Lawrence University (SLAU) and Bugema, who ejected last year’s champions Kyambogo at the quarter finals. The semi finals draw will be held this Tuesday morning.
