The world of sports in the country is about to witness a revolutionary change as the American Football Federation of Uganda (AFFU) plans to launch the first ever American Football League in the country. The league will be referred as Uganda American Football League (UAFL).

The AFFU, a body with a mission to promote and develop American football, has been working tirelessly for the past few months to bring this much-awaited league to fruition. The proposed league will comprise of four teams, and it is expected to attract a following of fans and supporters.

According to the AFFU, the league will provide a platform for talented football players in the country to showcase their skills and compete at a high level. It will also create job opportunities for coaches, referees, and other personnel involved in the sport.

“We are excited to bring an American football league to the country. We believe that this league will put the country on the map of world football and create an avenue for talented players to showcase their skills,” said the president of AFFU, Steven George Okeng adding that the leagues and clubs will be managed by the federation and general managers and coaches will be appointed for each team.

It will be a 7-aside bi-weekly league and each team will have at least 10 players. AFFU notes that once the four teams kick off the league, there will be room for expansion in the future.

The AFFU has been in talks with some potential sponsors and stakeholders in the country to secure funding for the league.

The launch date for the league has not been officially announced by the AFFU. However, sources close to the federation suggest that it could be as early as March this year. The AFFU plans to put in place measures to ensure the safety and well-being of the players, and to provide a fair and competitive environment for all teams.

On a good note, AFFU recently received first consignment of gear from Maryland, USA comprising of 60 shoulder pads and 5 sets of jerseys. With four teams set to kickoff the season, the gear is a good start for all those involved in the preparation of the league.

The introduction of the American Football League in the country will be a milestone achievement for the sport in the country and is expected to ignite a new chapter in the history of football. Fans and supporters of American football can now look forward to exciting games and full contact competitions in the near future. The men’s national team, The Generals are the only team to have played full contact and have had two home games so far.
