All eyes are on the Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo as the Uganda Cranes host Burundi today in the return leg of the CHAN 2024 Qualifiers.
The Cranes enter the game with momentum, having edged Burundi 1-0 in the first leg.
Head Coach Paul Put is optimistic about the team’s chances, emphasizing minimal squad changes to maintain cohesion and build on their recent performances.
“We’ve worked on the areas that needed improvement after the first game,” said Coach Put during the team’s final training session. “While some adjustments have been made, we’ve retained the core of the team to foster confidence and continuity.”
Coach Put also called on Ugandan fans to rally behind the team. “Ugandans have always been incredible supporters of the Cranes. These are their boys, and they need their unwavering support today.”
The team is in top form, with all 26 players available for selection. Notable names include goalkeeper Hannington Sebwalunyo, defenders Gavin Kizito Mugweri and Derrick Ndahiro, midfielder Allan Okello, and forwards Milton Karisa and Isaac Ogwang, who scored in the first leg.
The stakes are high as Uganda aims to secure a spot in the CHAN 2024 tournament. Burundi is expected to come out fighting, but with home advantage and a supportive crowd, the Cranes are determined to deliver a solid performance.
