A 29-player roster has been revealed for the Uganda Cranes Select team that will participate in the 2024 FUFA Super 8 Tournament, commencing on August 2.
Guided by national team assistant coach Sam Ssimbwa, the squad comprises mainly local players who are not part of the seven competing clubs. Additionally, the roster includes some foreign-based players and free agents.
The Cranes Select team will face the reigning StarTimes Uganda Premier League champions SC Villa, along with BUL FC, Vipers SC, Kitara FC, KCCA FC, Maroons FC, and NEC FC.
Sponsored by MTN and Nile Special, the tournament features the top seven teams from the 2023/2024 Premier League season.
“The players in the Select squad will be evaluated by the Uganda Cranes technical team, aiming to impress and secure a spot in the senior team for the 2025 AFCON Qualifiers starting in September,” stated FUFA Communications Director Ahmed Hussein.
“Those already within the Uganda Cranes setup will have the opportunity to reinforce their positions by maintaining high physical and mental standards ahead of the campaign. The clubs will use this tournament to prepare their squads for the new season,” Hussein added.
Training for the squad will commence on Tuesday, July 23, at the Lugogo MTN Omondi Stadium, starting at 8:00 am.
Matches will be held at three venues: Mandela National Stadium-Namboole, St. Mary’s Stadium-Kitende, and MTN Omondi Stadium-Lugogo.
