Uganda has been placed in Group K alongside football powerhouses France, Chile, and Canada for the upcoming FIFA U-17 World Cup scheduled to take place from November 3 to 27, 2025, in Qatar.
The group stage draw, held on Sunday evening in Qatar, revealed that coach Brian Ssenyondo’s young charges will kick off their campaign against Canada on November 5 at Al Rayyan Stadium. Uganda will then face Chile on November 8 before wrapping up the group stage with a high-stakes clash against France on November 11.
The tournament marks Uganda’s first appearance at the global U-17 showpiece, having secured qualification by edging out The Gambia in a tense playoff during the TotalEnergies CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations held in Egypt last month.
This year’s edition of the U-17 World Cup will be the first under FIFA’s newly adopted annual cycle and will also debut an expanded 48-team format, doubling the number of participating nations from previous editions.
Uganda will be one of 10 African representatives in Qatar, joining South Africa, Morocco, Senegal, Tunisia, Egypt, Cote d’Ivoire, Zambia, Burkina Faso, and Mali in carrying the continent’s hopes.
Defending champions Germany, who clinched their maiden title in 2023, will return to defend their crown in what promises to be the most competitive and inclusive edition of the tournament yet.
