Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) officials are optimistic about significant developments in the sport following their participation in the recent ICC Africa Region Members Conference held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, from April 25–26, 2025.
Led by UCA Chairman Jackson Kavuma and Operations Manager Joshua Mwanja, Uganda’s delegation joined representatives from 19 ICC Associate nations and two Full Members to chart a course for the future of cricket on the continent. The high-level event, hosted by the Tanzania Cricket Association and facilitated by ICC Africa Development Officer Justine Ligyalingi, focused on the theme “Mutual Cooperation for Global Domination.”
According to UCA’s Mwanja, the sessions offered replicable models for strengthening cricket structures and boosting development at both grassroots and elite levels. “From governance to performance enhancement and commercial innovation, this was a catalyst for change,” he noted.
A key highlight from the discussions was Uganda’s expressed interest in actively participating in the 2027 World Cup Legacy Program. Chairman Kavuma confirmed that Uganda will soon hold internal board discussions to finalize its focus area for implementation, with 50% ICC support expected.
“Engagement with Full Members like South Africa and Zimbabwe is also on the cards for coaching and game-time support,” Kavuma added, signaling strategic collaborations on the horizon.
The Ugandan delegation also took part in sessions on long-term development, player pathways, administrative professionalism, and the integration of cricket into the African Games. Amendments to the Africa Cricket Association (ACA) constitution were also reviewed, with Uganda’s former UCA Chairman Michael Nuwagaba currently representing the country on the ACA interim board.
UCA reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, excellence, and sustainable development in alignment with ICC and ACA frameworks.
