Kenyan professional Justus Madoya has returned to the summit of the 2021 Tusker Malt Uganda Golf Open after he regained the lead following the conclusion of the tournament’s third round on Friday at Entebbe Club’s par-71 course.
Madoya shot an impressive 5 under par 66 to post a five stroke overall lead going into Saturday’s final round that tees off at 8 a.m. He now has an overall 14 under par 199 after three days of play.
Madoya who took the day one lead only to emerge second on day two says that he’s made changes to his game approach and now aims for a very strong finish in order to hoist the winner’s trophy on Saturday.
“My game has changed a lot and now I am able to avoid the draws I use to hit while a new Ping Putter which I got a couple of weeks ago, has also made me improve my putting,” Madoya told Nation Media.
In 2019, Madoya won the Entebbe Open on the same course and he now believes that he history will repeat itself when the Safari Tour event winds down on Saturday.
Having finished outside the podium in the opening two rounds, Kenya’s Dismas Indiza who won the Uganda Golf Open in 2018 on the same course is now second (204) but is five strokes behind Madoya.
Day two leader and defending champion Robson Chinhoi had a slow round on Friday as he shot 2 over par 73. He now has an overall 8 over parshot and he’ll be in the pressure group of the top three players on Saturday.
Local pro and 2017 Amateur Open winner Ronald Rugumayo is still standing strong having posted 5 under par 66 on Friday. He’s fourth on the leader with an overall 7 under par 206, a stroke ahead of Zimbabwean Visitor Mapwanya who’s fifth.
UPGA Captain Deo Akope is tied with his country mate Philip Kasozi off 2 under par 211.
Ugandan pair of Joshua Seale and Willy Kitata have 1 under par 212 and level par 213 respectively.
13 Ugandans including two amateurs made the money cut on Thursday with the pro kitty being UGX100M.
