Effective May 1st, 2024, Uganda Hockey has unveiled a revamped technical team lineup for the National Senior Hockey Teams, marking a pivotal step in the quest for enhanced performance and development within the sport.
In a bid to fortify the infrastructure supporting Uganda’s hockey aspirations, the adjustments underscore a commitment to fostering a dynamic and supportive environment for athletes, aimed at maximizing their potential on and off the field.
Following an extensive evaluation and consultation process, the restructured technical team comprises a blend of seasoned expertise and fresh perspectives, all hailing from Uganda:
Team Managers:
- Bridget Baine (Women)
- Byron Matovu (Men)
Head Coaches:
- Moses Nsereko (Women)
- Vincent Kasasa (Men)
Assistant Coaches:
- Martin Okello (Women)
- Bernard Bwire (Men)
Goalkeeping Coach:
- Dulf Musoke
Doctor:
- Emmanuel Ewochu, MD
Physiotherapists:
- Desire Mukisa (Women)
- Solomon Ogwal (Men)
Kit Manager:
- Joshua Masawi
Notably, the team managers retain their positions from the previous technical setup, ensuring continuity and stability within the administrative framework. Likewise, the team doctor remains unchanged, maintaining a consistent approach to medical support.
Notably absent from the previous technical team are the three Italians, Francisco Richichi (head coach), Antonio Spignolo (goalkeeping coach), and Massimiliano Paolotroni (physiotherapist), reflecting a renewed focus on homegrown capabilities.
Vincent Kasasa, formerly the national team coach for men, transitions to the role of head coach, while Moses Nsereko assumes the helm for the women’s team, consolidating their respective leadership roles within the setup.
Martin Okello joins the women’s team as assistant coach, bringing a wealth of local experience to further elevate their performance. On the men’s side, Bernard Bwire steps in, poised to complement Head Coach Vincent Kasasa’s leadership with his tactical acumen.
Moreover, the inclusion of a dedicated kit manager underscores the technical team’s commitment to optimizing every facet of the athletes’ experience, both on and off the field of play.
