Wednesday May 01st, 2024, Mandela National stadium, Namboole
BUL vs Vipers – 4pm
KCCA vs SC Villa – 7pm
Football makes a triumphant return to Mandela National Stadium, Namboole after a hiatus since 2019, featuring two thrilling Uganda Premier League matches on Wednesday.
In the first match, BUL goes head-to-head with Vipers, both teams level on 46 points and only separated by goal difference. While the champions sit second on the log, the Jinja-based side holds third place.
Following Kitara’s slip-up at home in a draw against Mbarara City, these two teams, set to reopen the refurbished home of football, have a golden opportunity to claim the top spot on the leaderboard.
BUL secured a thrilling 3-2 victory in the previous encounter at Kitende against Vipers and now have the opportunity to achieve a rare double over the Venoms with another win.
A draw would keep both teams trailing behind Kitara, who currently sit on 48 points, although Vipers will still have a game in hand.
Later in the evening, at 7 pm, SC Villa will face off against KCCA in a clash between two of Ugandan football’s most storied clubs, boasting a combined total of 29 titles.
Despite being fourth on the table with 45 points, Villa has a realistic chance of adding to their tally of 16 titles, while KCCA, positioned sixth with 39 points, will look to capitalize on their favorable record against Villa, having secured 13 wins and only suffering two losses since 2012.
As the matches mark the test events for the official return of football to Namboole, spectators can anticipate the possibility of both broken and new records.
Tickets are priced at 10,000 UGX for ordinary admission and 50,000 UGX for VIP access, already available for purchase at designated selling points.
