In a bold move to maintain discipline within the sport, the Uganda Hockey Association (UHA) has announced strict measures following violent incidents that marred a National Hockey League match between Wananchi SC and Weatherhead HC Men over the weekend.
The association’s Executive Committee has swiftly reacted to the attack on match officials, stressing the importance of ensuring safety for all participants.
The deplorable acts of violence, which occurred on 12th October 2024, have led to the immediate suspension of two individuals, John Nsubuga and Dickson Kisira, both of whom were found guilty of assaulting match officials. The UHA has banned the duo from all hockey-related activities for a period of 24 months, effective immediately.
Weatherhead Hockey Club, from which one of the offenders is registered, has also been fined in connection with the violent behavior displayed by its member.
The UHA, in a firm statement, reaffirmed its commitment to eliminating all forms of violence from the sport, ensuring a secure and respectful environment for players, officials, and spectators alike.
