Uganda has replaced Senegal in the upcoming U-20 Barthés Trophy, a continental rugby showpiece that will be held in Nairobi, Kenya from 9 to 17 April 2022.

Senegal was part of the eight teams that was meant to take part in the tournament but have withdrawn and Uganda was awarded the slot.

Uganda will now join Kenya who are the title holders, Namibia, Madagascar, Tunisia, Zimbabwe, Cote d’Ivoire and Zambia.

Uganda provisional side for the tournament will have their first trial ahead of the showpiece on Sunday, 13th March at Kyadondo Rugby Club in Kampala.

This will be the first U-20 Barthés Trophy to be graced by eight teams. The previous editions have been having fewer teams involved.

Meanwhile, other continental tournaments that will be held this year are; Africa Men’s 7s that will be held at Kyadondo Rugby Grounds in Kampala, Uganda from 23 to 24 April, the Africa Women’s 7s that will be held in Tunisia from 29 to 30 April and the Rugby Africa Cup 2022, a World Cup 2023 qualification tournament for the continent that will be hosted in Marseilles and Aix-en-Provence, France from 1 July to 10.
