Scotland will hope to recover from 70-34 defeat by Netball World Cup hosts England to help them beat Uganda this Sunday.

Consecutive Group D defeats for Samoa make it very likely Scotland will join the England Roses and Uganda She Cranes in the second stage.

“We felt uncomfortable and had to adapt so that will really help us. England got off to a blistering start, backed by a passionate home support at the Liverpool Arena. Before the game we knew it was going to be tough so we set targets,” said Scotland’s 17-year-old Emma Barrie.

“Sunday is going to be different. Uganda are more physical and probably have better jump,” added Barrie, who came off the bench to earn her second cap.

Uganda recovered from an opening 64-32 defeat to England and managed a 69-48 win over Samoa at the M&S Arena, to ensure that all four African teams at the tournament have at least one victory.

CoachVincent Kiwanuka made some changes in the team that started lost to England with captain Peace Proscovia starting on the bench as England-based Mary Nuba started as the She Cranes goal shooter. Jessica Achan also earned her first start.

With better goal difference, Uganda sits second on the Group D log while Scotland that beat Samoa in the opener are third. Winless Samoa are at the foot of the table led by undefeated England that has four points. From the preliminary group stage, three teams are needed to join round two of group E and F.
