Uganda is gearing up to make its mark on the international football stage as four schools prepare to represent the nation at the upcoming Football World Cup in Dalian, China. St. Mary’s College Kisubi, Bukedea Comprehensive School, and Amus College School will showcase their talents, with Amus College participating in both boys’ and girls’ categories.

The official send-off ceremony took place this morning at Copper Chimney-Lugogo, with Hon Peter Ogwang, State Minister for Sports Ministry of Education and Sports, leading the delegation. Stressing the importance of discipline on and off the field, Hon Ogwang emphasized the unity of Team Uganda over individual school affiliations.

Accompanying the delegation were esteemed officials including Rev. Can. Duncan Mugumya, Commissioner of Physical Education and Sports, Ministry of Education and Sports, and Patrick Okanya, Assistant Leader of Delegation to China. The commitment to patriotism instilled in Ugandan schools was highlighted as a driving force behind the students’ exemplary conduct during international competitions.

Captaincy of Team Uganda falls to Kazaire Mark, a student from St. Mary’s College Kisubi, as they prepare to face their opponents from around the globe. The draw has already determined their fate, with Amus College girls’ team placed in Group C alongside formidable opponents from the Czech Republic, Canada, and Nigeria.

In the boys’ category, the competition promises to be intense, with Bukedea Comprehensive School (Uganda 2) grouped with powerhouses such as Brazil and Germany in Group F. St. Mary’s College Kisubi (Uganda 3) will face off against schools from Saudi Arabia and England in Group E.

Reflecting on Uganda’s past achievements in international competitions, the delegation aims to build on previous successes and return home with more medals. Last year’s ISF World Cup saw Uganda’s St Noa Girls clinching the Bronze medal, showcasing the nation’s potential on the global stage.
