One of the Council of East and Central African Football Associations (CECAFA) representative, Uganda, is poised to showcase its football prowess during the CAF African Schools Football Championship continental finals in Zanzibar.
The Championship’s second edition will see fourteen schools competing from May 21-24 at the Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar.
Uganda’s boys’ and girls’ teams, who are the CECAFA Zonal champions, are ready to uphold the zone’s honor before the local fans. This event is particularly significant as Zanzibar welcomes a major CAF Championship for the first time.
Trevor Mubiru, captain of the Uganda boys’ team, expressed their readiness and determination to win the continental trophy. “We know it will be very tough in Zanzibar, but we are well prepared for the challenge,” Mubiru told Cecafaonline.
The draw, conducted by CAF Legends Jean Sseninde from Uganda and Nigeria’s Daniel Amokachi, placed Uganda’s boys’ team in Pool A with Tanzania and Senegal.
In the girls’ competition, Uganda’s team will compete in Group B against South Africa, Togo, and The Gambia. Shadia Nabirye, captain of the Uganda girls’ team, expressed their readiness to take on the challenge in Zanzibar.
The winners of the boys’ and girls’ competitions will each receive USD 300,000, with runners-up earning USD 200,000, and bronze medalists receiving USD 150,000. These awards, provided through CAF’s partnership with the Motsepe Foundation, are intended for development projects within the schools.

- Group B: South Africa, Togo, The Gambia, Uganda

- Group A: Tanzania, Senegal, Uganda
- Group B: South Africa, Benin, Guinea, Libya
