Uganda will host her 2021 Rugby Africa Cup games!
This was confirmed by the Uganda Rugby Union through a press release on Sunday, July 04.
“I write to inform you that Uganda was chosen to host the Rugby Africa Cup IC Group Tournament. Read part of the statement by the URU. Read the statement.
“Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and current Government of Uganda and Ministry of Health SOPs, the tournament will take place under a safety bubble with access limited to bare minimum.”
This year’s edition will also double as qualifiers for the 2023 Rugby World Cup. Teams will compete for one direct qualification spot into the final World Cup tournament in France and for one place in the final qualification tournament.
Uganda is in pool C and will face off with Ghana and Algeria in the three-team group.
The Cranes will need to be one of the top two sides so as to advance to the next qualification stage. The next stage will be the 2022 Africa Cup where by the winner of an 8-team straight knockout competition will advance to the World Cup as Africa 1.
The runner-up will advance to the Final Qualification Tournament as Africa 2. This stage will begin with 4 quarter finals, followed by semi-finals and culminating in a final, all played out of one venue.

Relatedly, the Women’s team have also been drawn in pool C of their Africa Cup.
They will face off with Zimbabwe in a double header to determine who progresses further.
Both the Men and Women fixtures for team Uganda will be played at Kyadondo Rugby grounds.
