Uganda U-20 rugby team gears up for Barthes Trophy

Uganda Rugby U20 head coach Martial Tchumcam on Sunday named the final squad for the U-20 Barthes Trophy set for April 22th to 30th 2023 at Nyayo Stadium, Nairobi.

The team is comprised of a handful of premier league players, regional league players and a couple of charges from High School clubs.

Calvin Gizamba who plies his trade with top tier side Kobs is the team captain. The vice captains are; Awan David (Sailors) and Mwayi Stuart Micheal (Kobs)

Uganda will face Kenya in the first quarter final at 4: 30pm (EAT) on 22nd April 2023.

The tournament, which serves as the Africa U20 Championship returns to Nairobi for a fourth time this April after previous editions in 2019, 2021 & 2022. It brings together eight of Africa’s leading U20 sides battling it out for the overall title and a ticket to this year’s World Rugby Junior Trophy which also takes place in Nairobi in July this year.

Leading the charge in Nairobi are defending champions Zimbabwe, last year’s beaten finalists Namibia, hosts Kenya and Madagascar.

Other teams that will be in Nairobi are Uganda, Zambia, Tunisia and the Ivory Coast.

The tournament will be played on a knockout basis with over three match days

Quartefinals – 22nd April

Semifinals – 26th April

Finals 30th – April.
