Day three of the Sky View Girls Schools Cricket Week saw the tournament’s top contenders tighten their grip as the race for Super 8 qualification moved closer to conclusion in Gulu.
Olila High School, Jinja Secondary School, Masaka Secondary School and Light Secondary School all maintained unbeaten records, underlining their dominance with one round of group matches left to play.
In the morning session, Iganga Secondary School registered their first win of the tournament in emphatic fashion, defeating hosts Gulu High School by 104 runs. Mariam Akullu anchored the innings with an unbeaten 43, supported by Josephine Babirye’s 31 not out, before a disciplined bowling performance sealed victory.
Jinja Secondary School, despite posting their lowest total of the tournament (72), relied on a strong bowling display led by captain Sheila Namagoba to secure a 41-run win over St. Theresa and remain top of Group C.
Light Secondary School continued their impressive run, overpowering Gayaza High School by 107 runs in a one-sided contest. The result confirmed Light’s place in the Super 8 as group leaders.
Defending champions Olila High School also advanced, beating St. James Secondary School by 79 runs. Josephine Icumar struck a composed half-century, while Martha Amayo delivered a standout five-wicket haul to seal the win.
Masaka Secondary School handed St. John’s Secondary School their first defeat of the tournament with a four-wicket victory, keeping both teams on course for qualification from Group D. Sacred Heart Secondary School also secured their Super 8 spot with a 37-run win over Ndejje Secondary School.
The afternoon fixtures produced more competitive encounters. Jinja Secondary School edged Sacred Heart by 14 runs in a low-scoring clash, while Light Secondary School remained unbeaten with a convincing win over Soroti Secondary School.
Masaka Secondary School showed composure in a tight contest, defeating Iganga Secondary School by 12 runs to stay firmly in contention for top spot in their group. St. James Secondary School, meanwhile, produced an aggressive chase to overcome Rwenzori High School by seven wickets.
Olila High School capped a strong day with another commanding performance, defeating Masindi Secondary School by 78 runs to finish top of Group A.
Gayaza High School also found a breakthrough moment, securing their first win of the tournament with a dominant 90-run (DLS) victory over Kasese Secondary School, powered by Ruth Mwanga’s unbeaten 89.
By the close of play, the Super 8 picture had largely taken shape, with Olila and Light leading their groups on maximum points, while Jinja and Sacred Heart remained firmly in contention.
