The Uganda Premier League’s Match Day 16 concludes in dramatic fashion tonight as KCCA FC hosts NEC FC at the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo, kicking off at 7 PM under the floodlights.
This match is poised to be the highlight of the day, with NEC, currently second on the league table with 33 points, looking to close the gap on leaders Vipers SC. Vipers sit comfortably at the summit with 37 points after their 2-0 victory over URA on Tuesday. NEC’s form has been impressive, and they’ll hope to replicate their first-round success over KCCA when they edged out the Kasasiro Boys 1-0.
On the other hand, KCCA finds itself in a challenging position. The team is fourth on the table with 24 points, a staggering 13 points behind Vipers. To make matters worse, KCCA forfeited their recent match against Mbarara City due to fielding ineligible player Gavin Kizito, compounding their struggles this season. A win against NEC is crucial to restore confidence and keep their fading title hopes alive.
The stakes are high for NEC, as a win tonight would not only bring them within one point of the table leaders but also secure their first-ever league double over KCCA since earning promotion last season.
Meanwhile, earlier in the day, Mbale Heroes, languishing at the bottom of the table with 9 points, host Mbarara City in a relegation battle at Mbale Stadium. Mbarara, currently 13th with 17 points, will be looking to widen the gap between themselves and the drop zone.
At the Bombo Military Grounds, UPDF FC hosts Kitara FC in another 4 PM kickoff. Kitara, sitting 8th on the table, aim to replicate their dominant 4-0 victory from the first leg, while UPDF, in 11th place, desperately need a win to avoid getting sucked deeper into the relegation fight.
