Uganda Premier League (UPL) leaders NEC missed the chance to extend their lead at the top after a hard-fought 1-1 draw against a 10-man URA side, while Maroons FC delivered a stunning 3-0 victory over Mbarara City at Kakyeka Stadium.
At Nakivubo, NEC were forced to settle for a point in a dramatic clash with URA. Godfrey Sekibengo’s first-half strike put the hosts ahead, but NEC’s Paul Mucureezi equalized in the 70th minute.
The match took a heated turn seven minutes later when URA’s Hudu Mulikyi was sent off for a violent stamp on Enoch Ssebagala.
NEC now sits atop the standings with 23 points, just two ahead of second-placed Vipers SC, who have a game in hand.
URA, currently eighth with 15 points, continues to grapple with inconsistency under coach Alex Isabirye.
Meanwhile, in Mbarara, Maroons FC showcased their attacking prowess with a commanding 3-0 win over the hosts.
Baden Mujahid Ogama opened the scoring just three minutes into the match and completed his brace early in the second half, capitalizing on a defensive mix-up between Mbarara goalkeeper Abdul Kimera and defender Karim Ramathan.
Godwin Kitagenda sealed the victory with a 65th-minute goal, lifting Maroons to sixth place on 16 points.
Mbarara City, on the other hand, remains in a precarious position, sitting 11th with 12 points after suffering their fifth defeat of the season.
