UPL: SC Villa seek redemption ahead of tricky clash with Maroons
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

SC Villa make the short but notoriously difficult trip to the Prisons Grounds this afternoon, where hosts Maroons await with hopes of springing an upset.

The Jogoos saw their five-match winning streak halted last week in a 1-1 stalemate, leaving them hungry to return to winning ways in a league race that has become incredibly tight. Villa sit on 17 points—level with KCCA, Vipers, and Police—in a congested top four separated only by goal difference.

A draw in Luzira would be enough to temporarily send Villa back to the summit, but coach Dusan Stojanović has made it clear that only victory will satisfy their ambitions. The challenge, however, is steep: Villa have not beaten Maroons away since 2019, when Ronald Magwali’s strike secured a narrow win.

Frank Ssebuufu, Ibrahim Kasinde, and Hassan Mubiru will shoulder the attacking responsibility as Villa search for a breakthrough against one of the league’s most disciplined home sides.

For Maroons, currently 11th on nine points, the stakes are equally significant. A win would lift them into the top half of the table and inject confidence into a season that has shown flashes of promise. Key men Jackson Nunda, Ivan Asaba, and Raymond Walugembe are expected to play central roles in dictating the tempo and troubling Villa’s back line.

With both teams eyeing crucial points for very different reasons, the Prisons Grounds is set for a tense and potentially season-shaping encounter.
