UPL: Vipers set for trophy lift as final day sparks top eight showdown

Vipers SC will officially be crowned champions of the 2024/25 StarTimes Uganda Premier League on Saturday, May 24, capping off another impressive domestic campaign.

The crowning moment, which marks their seventh league title, will follow their final fixture of the season at home against Soltilo Bright Stars at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.

Having already secured the title with 68 points, the Venoms will be keen to celebrate with a victory in front of their fans and gain momentum ahead of the Stanbic Uganda Cup final against KCCA, slated for May 31.

While the title race has been settled, the final day promises intense drama as several clubs tussle for a top-eight finish and a spot in the 2025 FUFA Super 8 tournament.

Kitara FC (41 points) in seventh place, Maroons FC (40 points) in eighth, and ninth-placed Express FC (39 points) are all locked in a tight contest. Express will need to beat city rivals KCCA at Nakivubo and hope that both Kitara, who travel to face Mbale Heroes, and Maroons, who host Mbarara City in Luzira, drop points.

Meanwhile, UPDF FC, also on 39 points, host BUL FC at Bombo and could sneak into the top eight if results elsewhere go in their favor. BUL, however, remain unbeaten in the second round and are unlikely to go down without a fight.

Second-placed NEC FC, who sit four points behind champions Vipers, will wrap up their campaign against URA FC at Lugogo, while SC Villa, currently sixth with 42 points, visit Lugazi FC.

In Wakissha, relegated Wakiso Giants will aim for a positive send-off when they host Police FC in what will be their final top-tier game.

All eight fixtures will kick off simultaneously at 3:00 PM (EAT), ensuring a thrilling climax to a season filled with twists, surprises, and standout performances.
