Defending champions Buddo Secondary School and Bukedea Comprehensive School South underlined their title ambitions after securing qualification to the knockout stage of the ongoing USSSA National Boys Football Championship in Lira.
The two sides maintained perfect starts to the tournament with back-to-back victories on Match Day Two to become some of the first schools to book places in the Round of 32.
Buddo SS followed their opening victory against Teso College Aloet with another dominant display, defeating Masindi SS 3-0 to move to six points. Bukedea Comprehensive School South also stayed flawless after a 2-0 win over Lira Town College, having earlier thrashed PP Newton 4-1 in their opening game.
Several other schools joined the knockout list after collecting maximum points from their opening two fixtures. Among the standout performers were Amus College, Ssingo SS, Kyaddondo SS, Mukono Kings, Numasa, Masaka SS, Greenlight High School, Mvara SS, Aiden College and St Joseph Buyaga.
Amus College continued their impressive form under coach Richard Malinga with a narrow 1-0 victory over Standard High School Ndejje after hammering Trinity College Abilomino 4-0 on the opening day.
Ssingo SS also looked sharp, building on their 3-0 victory over Bishop Comboni with a composed 2-0 triumph against Mengo SS to comfortably advance.
Kyaddondo SS edged Jinja Progressive Academy 2-0 to seal qualification, while Mukono Kings maintained momentum with another victory over Trinity College Abilomino.
Meanwhile, traditional powerhouses St Mary’s Kitende and Kibuli SS finally found their footing after disappointing starts to the competition. Kitende registered their first win with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Lubiri SS, while Kibuli edged St Kaggwa Bushenyi 1-0 to revive their qualification hopes.
Elsewhere, Greenlight High School continued to impress after following their 5-1 demolition of Dr Obote with a 1-0 win against Aringa SS. Numasa also progressed after defeating PP Newton 3-0 following their earlier victory over the hosts.
The championship now heads into the decisive final round of group matches, where several schools will battle for the remaining knockout places.
