USSSA includes First Aid and Injury management in its Capacity Building Programme

First Aid and Injury Management is part of the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) has included First Aid and Injury management as part of its Capacity Building Programme.

This is a new course that has been introduced in the second year of the capacity building training.The training is taking place at Kibuli SS in Kampala between 10th to 17th December,2023.

Gabriel Isaac Otuk, the founder and CEO Fitness Health and Nutrition Sports is the instructor of this course.

Otuk expressed his appreciation to USSSA as a stakeholder for working together with FHNS in the promotion of health and safety through education and idea sharing.

“I humbly hope that it can provide the platform for technical personnel working with coaches/trainers/nurses/physiotherapists/physical education/teachers/doctors/medical first aiders including fellow athletes/referees and umpires to understand the key concepts in injury causation/risk factors / emergency care and optimization of injury prevention strategies in long term athlete development”.

Nakanwagi Annet, a nurse from Wakiso is one of the participants and while she is already working with a few rugby players she is looking forward to learn how injuries in other sports are handled.

“I am here to achieve more knowledge on how to handle different injuries on the pitch and am very expectant because I know everything is going to go well.” said Nakanwagi.

The training will end on 17th December 2023 and resume in January 2024.Other disciplines include Football, Netball,Volleyball,Athletics these are for coaches and referees or umpires.
