Incumbent Uganda Volleyball Federation (UVF) President Hadija Namada is seeking a second term in office with the federation set to go to polls on Sunday, 31st January 2021 at Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) premises at Lugogo in Kampala.

Namanda who assumed office in 2017 will be up against former president Sadik Nasiwu and Eddie Okila, who has unsuccessfully contested for the presidential seat in the past two elective congresses.

Namanda who is also Former UVF 2nd Vice President, FIVB International volleyball referee, among others will be facing a stiff race against Nasiwu in particular though she is optimistic of retaining her position.

Namanda has has also revealed key issues the federation will be tackling during the next Quadrennial.

According to Namanda, grassroots development is one of the issues UVF will focus on once she retains the top volleyball seat.

“This will include; Promotion of competition and decentralising trainings, calendars at regional level, promoting all girls’ championships, National Junior Championships and National Championships. This is to promote competition right from the region to National representation,” Namanda said via a missive.

Namanda also adds that other game plans include; competition and exposure, promotion of volleyball as an Olympic sport, networking and partnering to grow the sport, improve governance, profiling of clubs and players and look for a home for the federation and also facilities.

“High on the agenda is fundraising for a permanent home for Volleyball,” Namanda added.

Just like all federations, UVF work was halted last year when Covid-19 broke out and sports banned. Namanda now seeks for a second and last term in office to accomplish the plans and programmes that were cut short by the pandemic.

“In 2020 we were to host the CAVB National Referees Course and 85 referees from the region were to participate but COVID-19 affected the hosting. The course was deferred to March 2021,” Namanda said adding that over 600 referees across the country have been trained during her term in office.

Namanda also revealed that during her reign, the federation has recorded the following achievements; improved FIVB continental ranking, engagements in various Competitions at different levels by clubs and national teams, acquisition of international court system, capacity building at national level, players turning professional, NCS engagement, domestic leagues among others.

Namanda who is also an all-around athlete boosts of experience in and outside volleyball (and sports as a whole) something that has helped her broaden her wings to various sports disciplines and other aspects of life outside sports including 18 years’ experience in Voter Data Management at Electoral Commission Uganda.
