Uganda’s senior women’s national cricket team, the Victoria Pearls, launched their 2025 Kwibuka Women’s T20 Tournament title defence in emphatic style, cruising to a 10-wicket victory over Cameroon at the Gahanga B Oval in Kigali.
Opting to bowl first after winning the toss, Uganda’s tactical move quickly paid dividends. Debutants Kevin Amuge and Sarah Tino made their international debuts memorable, contributing to Cameroon’s collapse for just 42 runs in 19.4 overs. Only one Cameroonian batter, Noan Adrienne Nogono (10), managed to reach double digits.
Veteran bowler Stephanie Nampiina was the star of the show, earning Player of the Match honours after a sensational spell of 3 wickets for just 3 runs in 3.4 overs — including two maidens. She was ably supported by Sarah Walaza and Patricia Akite, who took two wickets apiece. Debutant Tino also impressed with figures of 1/5 in four overs, one of which was a maiden.
Uganda’s response was swift and ruthless. Openers Janet Mbabazi (26 not out) and Esther Iloku (11 not out) made light work of the chase, reaching the target in just 4.5 overs without losing a wicket.
With this commanding victory, the Victoria Pearls have set the tone for their campaign as they prepare for their next challenge against Zimbabwe Emerging, scheduled for June 5 at 10:45 AM at the Gahanga Main Oval.
