Uganda women’s national cricket team, Victoria Pearls are hoping to win the final of the Capricorn Eagles Quadrangular Series when they take on hosts Namibia today afternoon (15:30 EAT) in Windhoek.
The final is a repeat of the regular game between the two sides on Monday which Victoria Pearls won by 4 wickets (77/7 against 79/6) to secure a slot in the final.
Victoria Pearls finished second in the regular round of games with six points, off three losses and three draws while Namibia topped the table with 10 points (five wins one loss). UAE and Hong Kong followed with four points each off two wins and four losses.
Uganda is the only side to condemn the hosts to defeat in the two-round four-team tournament and are looking to pick a back-to-back victory, this time in the final and return home with the winners’ accolade.
Victoria Pearls Assistant Coach Lawrence Ssempijja says that beating the hosts on Monday rejuvenated the girls’ strength and they are motivated to take on the home side in the final.
“The Monday win gave the girls a lot of energy and we are coming strong into the final and we are definitely going to win this tournament,” Ssempijja said.
Ssempijja attributed Monday heroics to great bowling though he believes that the girls would have done much better but he believes that the team will be well polished ahead of the final.
“We did the bowling very well though a little bit of dropped catches but that’s part of the game. They (Namibia) managed to score 77 but de chased it though it wasn’t easy,” Ssempijja added.
Victoria Pearls will seek to put another accolade into their trophy cabinet after they won the Victoria Series in Kampala just over a week ago.
