Cricket players in Uganda are headed for bigger things as far as academics are concerned.
This is after Victoria University (VU) and Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Monday that will see the University admit up to ten cricket players annually for academic courses.
The deal was unveiled at the University by UCA Chairman Bashir Badu Ansasira and the University Vice Chancellor Prof. Krishna N. Sharma.
“This is a good deal for us and we shall ensure as much transparency as possible to the fraternity. Such incentives will attract more to the sport. When we have elite players, they will be able to play at highest levels,” UCA’s Badu noted.
Prof. Krishna said that this is part of the University’s contribution to the nation’s development, but also a way of ensuring that the country has elite athletes.
“I personally have interest in cricket. In this partnership, even relatives of the players can benefit from the program at both short and long courses,” said Krishna. According to Badu, upcountry players who have limited resources will be prioritized in this partnership.
Victoria University will also offer psychological lessons to cricket custodians especially those at very competitive teams and will also organize various sports conferences in the near future.
