Vipers SC are through to the 2024-25 Stanbic Uganda Cup final after edging past holders Kitara FC 1-0 in the second leg of their semi-final clash played at Butema Royal Park in Hoima.
Midfielder Abdul-Karim Watambala was the difference maker, striking the only goal of the game to secure a 2-0 aggregate win for the Venoms, who had earlier clinched a late 1-0 victory in the first leg courtesy of Yunus Sentamu.
Saturday’s result comes just days after Vipers outclassed Kitara 2-0 in the league to win their seventh Uganda Premier League title — adding further salt to the wounds of the reigning Cup champions.
With the job now done over two legs, Vipers shift their focus to the final, where they await the outcome of the other semifinal between Kataka FC and KCCA FC. That tie will be decided on Sunday in Mbale, with KCCA carrying a healthy 3-0 lead from the first leg played in Kampala.
Vipers are hunting for their fourth Uganda Cup trophy, having previously lifted the silverware in 2016, 2020, and 2023. KCCA, meanwhile, are the tournament’s most decorated side with 10 titles, and will be favourites to progress past Kataka.
The grand finale is scheduled for Saturday, May 31st at the new-look Kadiba Stadium in Kampala — a match that promises fireworks under the floodlights.
