Vipers SC began their new era without head coach Nikola Kavazovic on a high, securing a 2-0 win over Wakiso Giants at Kabaka Kyabbagu Stadium on Thursday.
Goals from Allan Okello and Milton Karisa sealed the Venoms’ third win in five matches, bringing them level on 10 points with league leaders KCCA, who have played one game fewer.
The victory marked coach John Luyinda’s first official match since Kavazovic’s departure, having also led Vipers to a win over SC Villa before the international break.
Under Luyinda, the Venoms controlled the game against Steven Bengo’s Wakiso Giants, who now sit eighth with seven points after their second defeat of the season.
The breakthrough came in the 34th minute when Okello converted a penalty after Wakiso’s goalkeeper James Alitho fouled Karisa.
Vipers doubled their lead in the 62nd minute, with Karisa finishing off a rebound following an attack sparked by Okello.
With this win, Vipers have reignited their title chase, while Wakiso Giants are left searching for consistency as the season progresses.
