West, Kitara ARS regional qualifiers on

The ARS focus will be shifted to national finals after this weekend

The 2019 Airtel Rising Stars (ARS) U17 Boys and Girls tournament regional qualifiers are climaxing this weekend with the Kitara and Western regions. The two regions are jointly holding their qualifier championships in Masindi.

Action started on Friday with screening and will end with the finals on Sunday. The regional qualifiers started with Kampala region last month where Kawempe Muslim SS won both the Boys and Girls title.

Rays of Grace Junior academy from Buikwe retained the Buganda Boys title whilst Kayindu SS from Luwero clinched the Girls title.

In the Eastern and North East qualifiers, She Kataka retained the Girls Eastern region title while Busia Trust were the Boys champions.

The North Eastern Girls title was won by Lifeline from Bukedea while Olila High won the Boys category. In the Northern and West Nile region qualifiers, Simba Girls and Koboko Boys were the West Nile Boys and Girls champions respectively while the Lioness soccer academy and Credo were the Northern Girls and Boys winners respectively.

All the respective eight FUFA regions select the best players to represent them at the national finals due September 4-7 in Kampala at the StarTimes stadium, Lugogo.

The regional champions take Shs1.5m while the runners pocket Shs1m. The national champions will take home Shs7m whilst the runners up win Shs5m.

Airtel-Uganda, the exclusive sponsors of the tournament give each of the teams in the finals a set of jersey on top of prizes for individual winners.

The giant 4G smart phone network also extends football equipment to five schools in each region as part of this year’s campaign.
