CECAFA has announced new dates for the 2021 CECAFA Zonal CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers.

The tournament will now be played between August 28th and September 9th.

One thing, the host, has remained constant and it will still be played in Kenya as it was initially confirmed.

The tournament was initially postponed due to issues with one of the host venues which was deemed unavailable at the dates that were announced earlier.

The initial group stage format that has seen nine teams drawn into three groups has also been altered.

This is as a result of Scandinavian WFC pulling out of the tournament due to COVID-19 regulations in Rwanda.

Two groups of four teams, each, will now be used for the group stage.

CECAFA Executive Director Auka Gecheo confirmed the new proceedings.

“We have finally agreed with the Football Kenya Federation on the new dates and the qualifiers will take place. Gecheo said.

“We shall re-do the draw to have two pools with four teams each.

The tournament is expected to be played at Kasarani Stadium and Nyayo Stadium.

The winners of the competition progresses to the first ever CAF Women’s Champions League to be held in Egypt, later this year.

Uganda will be represented by FUFA Women Super League winners Lady Doves FC.

The other teams set to take part include, Vihiga Queens (Kenya), PVP FC (Burundi), Simba Queens (Tanzania), Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (Ethiopia), Yei Joint Stars FC (South Sudan) and New Generation (Zanzibar), FAD (Djibouti).
