Women Elite League new season set to kick off this weekend

The 2025/2026 season of the Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women Elite League will officially kick off this Saturday, February 28, 2026, with matches played simultaneously across various parts of Uganda.

Last season’s competition was won by St Noa Girls FC, who earned promotion to the Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women Super League following an impressive campaign.

Originally scheduled to start on October 18, 2025, the second-tier league was postponed by the FUFA Competitions Department due to national examinations involving several players. The decision was made to ensure inclusivity and allow affected players to complete their academic commitments without disruption.

Expanded Competition Format

The new season will feature 17 teams, an increase from 14 last season. All participating clubs have fulfilled the FUFA club licensing requirements.

The teams have been divided into two geographically structured groups to minimize travel costs:

Elizabeth Group (9 teams): Tooro Queens FC, Boni Consilli WFC, Buhimba Lady Saints FC, She Kasese FC, PISBC WFC, Wakiso Hill WFC, URA Ladies FC, Police Women FC, and UPDF WFC.

Victoria Group (8 teams): Ateker WFC, Gold Star Ladies FC, Pabo United WFC, UCU Lady Cardinals FC, High Way Ladies FC, Lira City Queens FC, Jinja United WFC, and BUL Women FC.

Each group will compete in a round-robin format, with the top team from both Elizabeth and Victoria groups securing promotion to the Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women Super League.

Opening Day Fixtures

UPDF Women FC vs PISGBC Queens FC – Bombo Barracks Ground
Pabo United WFC vs Jinja United WFC – Gulu High School Playground
Lira City Queens FC vs High Way Ladies FC – Lira Primary School Playground
